Using field recordings and custom samples as a starting point, Holzborn makes the recognizable unrecognizable, subjecting his sound sources to manipulation through custom-programmed interfaces, traditional effects and interactive processes, rounding the disc off with a few tracks that are pure studio creations. Though Holzborn has abandoned his guitar for this project, he brings his instrumental approach to the laptop, programming instruments that can be played. This results in the same dynamicism and timbal exploration displayed in his ensemble work, apparent whether playing classical guitar or electric guitar abused by electronics. "Rumbles, field recordings and silence provide a bed for grungy digital accents to noisily bonk the air, undressed and robotic. They are startling and infuriating, but the open space provides a wide arena to discover the color and mood of Holzborn's misshapen punctuation..." - Christopher R Weingarten, CMJ
"Subtle and quiet but somehow aggressive."
